SEALING PROFILE


The most important characteristic of EPM hydraulic seals is the capacity to adapt itself spontaneously and automatically to the working conditions, maintaining a constant sealing efficency, minimum wear and friction. This is achieved in two ways, by maintaining contact with the metal surfaces without fluid pressure, and at the same time vary the sealing action proportionally to the fluid pressure. It is a fact that the sealing profile has a decisive influence on the elastic deformation of the sealing lips of the seal and on the applied radial load in contact with the metal parts and the resultant fluid control.

When there is insufficient radial load (Figure 9), the oil film between the sealing lip and the metal surface will reach an excessive thickness causing unacceptable fluid leakages.

An excessive radial load (Figure 10), experienced during high pressure operation will cause a break in the oil film between the sealing lip and hte metal surface, even during movement. In this condition the lack of lubrication produces an increase in friction and a rapid increase in temperature, which dramatically reduces the seal life.

A sealing profile (Figure 11) which has been calculated using the latest technology, automatically varies the radial load proportionally to the fluid pressure applied, and the seal effect gives perfect fluid control during all working conditions.
